Leaving Legnica we pass through the so-called "Square": between 1945-1992 the place was inaccessible to Poles because of the Northern Group of the Soviet Army which was stationed here. We cross by overpasses very busy roads: the S3 expressway and the A4 motorway (modern Via Regia). Passing through villages with a rich history we reach Złotoryja - a city associated with gold mining. Historical sources confirm that the miners from the Złotoryja gold mines participated in the Battle of Legnica against the Mongols in 1241.
