Info

Schöllenenschlucht
At the junction with the Rhine-Reuss-Rhone route, which leads west, the Urner connection path to the Via Jacobi – as the path from Hospental is called – now descends northwards through the Schöllenen Gorge to Göschenen. In Schöllenen, impressive views of the Reuss deeply carved into the rock can be seen. The Suworow Monument and the Devil's Bridge provide an opportunity to engage with history and legends. In Göschenen, you reach the Gotthard mountain railway line again at the station. On the way to Amsteg, you repeatedly encounter viewing platforms and information boards indicating impressive bridges, tunnels, and historical-economic peculiarities. The path is marked both as Regional Route 55 (Gotthardbahn) and as National Route 2 (Trans Swiss Trail) and 7 (Via Gottardo). Before Wassen, the path passes St.Josef Church in Wattingen. In Wassen, a visit to the church dedicated to Saint Gall is worthwhile; it has become famous from the Gotthard mountain railway: it is visible three times from the train as the railway climbs the route. On the section to Wassen, the route crosses sides of the Reuss several times. It repeatedly offers interesting new perspectives on the traffic flows and reaches the village of Amsteg via Pfaffensprung – Gurtnellen – Meitschligen – Hinter and Vorderried. There, the Urner connection path joins the Graubünden Jakobsweg, which reaches the village from the Maderanertal.
Anmerkungen
After the descent through the impressive Schöllenen Gorge, the path leads through the deeply incised Urnerland. The traffic routes for cars and trains are interesting constant companions. (Gotthard North Ramp Route)
Tipp des Autors
In the Schöllen there is a half-hour circular route that offers interesting insights into the gorge from various angles.
