This stage westward along Lake Constance takes us through the canton of Thurgau. The part of Lake Constance west of the Konstanz/Kreuzlingen narrows is also called "Untersee", it is the outflow of the Rhine from Lake Constance and, together with it, largely marks the border between Germany and Switzerland up to Basel.
The canton of Thurgau is known, among other things, for its fruit cultivation. It is the cultivation of apples and pears that has given the canton of Thurgau the popular nickname "Cider India".

The pilgrimage route from Konstanz/Kreuzlingen along the Rhine to Basel is called the "High Rhine Trail" here. Several pilgrimage routes from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg join this route.
