Shortly thereafter we cross an industrial canal that supplies the downstream Albbruck-Dogern power plant with Rhine water. We then walk along a dam for a while between the industrial canal on the right and the Rhine on the left until just before the mentioned power plant, where we then switch to the Swiss side of the Rhine.
Behind Schwaderloch awaits us the only significant ascent of the day, the Etzgerhalde, allowing us to avoid the main road and railway at a Rhine bend and instead enjoy a view of the Rhine and the German riverbank.
Laufenburg has a very picturesque old town on both sides of the Rhine, here one should rest and visit the two neighboring districts. Out of Laufenburg, we cross a bundle of high-voltage power lines, a link in the European high-voltage grid.
At Sisseln we cross the stream «Sissle», which comes from the Frick valley and flows into the Rhine here. At the stage town Stein, we soon encounter the highway and a heavily frequented railway line leading from the southern Jura side towards Basel.
The pilgrimage route from Konstanz/Kreuzlingen along the Rhine to Basel is called here «High Rhine Trail». A number of pilgrimage routes from Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg join this path.
