At the very top of Etzel Pass stands the chapel of Saint Meinrad. The saint is said to have stayed there for several years as a hermit before choosing his residence at the site of today's Einsiedeln monastery. The chapel was built in 1698 and has since served as a resting place for pilgrims after the strenuous ascent. It is thus located on the historic Way of St. James.

The path for pilgrims to Etzel Pass is very steep. Even the paved pass road is very steep. When traveling by bike, one must sometimes push the bike on the steepest sections. Therefore, this section is bypassed via Feusisberg, and unfortunately, one "misses" the Etzel Pass summit.

However, if you still have enough driving energy and can also handle steep sections, visiting the chapel and the restaurant is an option. You simply go left up to the pass and return on the same route after the visit.

Der Weg ist wohl nicht weit, doch setzt er grosse Anforderungen an die Traktion eines Gefährts. In den steilsten Abschnitten besteht die Gefahr, dass angetrieben Räder einfach durchdrehen. Die Steigung beträgt etwa 22%!
