On the wheelchair pilgrimage route to the Black Madonna in Einsiedeln, you can see an island in the Rhine at the height of Eschenz. It is the island with the Werd Monastery. The history of the monastery on this island goes far back; on November 16, 759, the first abbot of St. Gallen Monastery, Otmar, died in exile on the island of Wird. The Werd Monastery belongs to the Benedictine monks of Einsiedeln but is currently used by the Franciscan monks.

As a valuable cultural asset, it is definitely worth a visit; a short detour to the island would therefore be a good idea. The island can be reached via a long wooden footbridge. When visiting, one should respect the times for the church's canonical hours at 7:00, 12:00, and 18:00 and not disturb in the chapel at these times.

Der Holzsteg zur Insel ist in Längsrichtung beplankt. Ein Befahren ist daher nicht sehr komfortabel, aber sonst problemlos.
