Rüeggisberg: Monastery Ruins

This second section of the Lucerne Way will bring us at Tromwil shortly before Rüeggisberg onto the Gantrisch/Freiburg Jakobsweg. After Burgdorf, we will soon find low-traffic paths to lead us in a southwesterly direction over the heights to Krauchthal. From there, we continue southwards to Gümligen, again passing through a longer section in the most beautiful nature. The ascent behind Krauchthal first takes us past the Thorberg detention center, which as a building dates back to a pre-Reformation monastery.

After Gümligen, there is an Aare crossing on an old wooden bridge, and around Bern-Belp Airport we reach Kehrsatz, then it goes up into the heights again and west off the Bern-Thun axis we head south until we meet the Gantrisch/Freiburg Jakobsweg coming from Lake Thun.

Anmerkungen

This tour is a bike variant for one of the Jakobswege in Switzerland. It largely follows the marked pilgrim route, but also takes drivable alternative routes when the original route is not very «bike-friendly» and alternatives are available. The route is therefore not suitable for racing bikes.
