Amsoldingen –- Wattenwil

In Amsoldingen we follow, turning right, the Jakobsweg signposts to the main road, where we turn left at the Seegässli signpost. We ride along the village street until above Uebeschi, where we turn left following the yellow hiking trail signposts and

-signs. We ride over Gänsemoos, Honegg and Schubhus. Then it continues straight ahead, first on a field path and then up to a farmhouse. There we leave the marked Jakobsweg and ride left over the farmyard down to the Fallbach. Upon reaching the main road, we cross it at the Fallbach bus stop and continue straight into Hintereschlistrasse.

St. Antonius Church

From here the streets are well signposted. In the hamlet of Eschli, we turn left into Kirchstrasse and reach the church. We leave the place via Kirchweg (short nature road). After a short descent, we go left into Wäsmeligasse and continue into Kesslergasse. At the end of Schmittenstrasse, we turn left into Allmendeggstrasse, which we follow to the main road. Then we turn left. After crossing the Gürbe, we turn left at the first houses into Vordere Weite street. Then we continue right on Weiermoosweg until we then turn left into Mettleneggstrasse. Now we turn right onto Langmattstrasse and from there left onto Gmeisstrasse. Straight ahead we come to Froschgasse and from there left to Vorgasse, from where we reach Wattenwil church.

Wattenwil - Riggisberg

Behind Wattenwil church, we turn right onto the marked Jakobsweg, which takes us very steeply up the slope to the highest point Dorneren. After enjoying the wonderful view of the Bernese Alps there, we ride right down to Burgistein. Parallel to the Jakobsweg, reserved for pilgrims on foot, we then ride on the country road to Riggisberg.

Riggisberg - Schwarzenburg

In Riggisberg, we follow the Rüeggisberg signpost to the hospital, where we then turn left onto the newly signposted Jakobsweg (Jakobsweg signposts) leading us to Mättiwil. There we leave the Jakobsweg and continue on the country road to the next roundabout. At the roundabout, we take the exit to Fultigen. After Vorder- and Hinterfultigen, we follow the white signpost left to Schwarzenburg. Over Schwandbach and Rossgraben bridges by the famous Swiss bridge builder Robert Maillart (1872-1940), we reach Elisried and continue to Schönentannen. There we take the main road to Schwarzenburg, thus avoiding fields and rough terrain.

Stage 12

Route: Schwarzenburg – Heitenried - St. Antoni – Tafers – Uebwil - Fribourg

Schwarzenburg –- Heitenried – - St. Antoni

We prefer to ride the Schwarzenburg – Sodbach – Heitenried route on the main road. The historic Sensegraben-Jakobsweg for pilgrims on foot leads through fields, partly through steep forest sections and riverbank slopes up and down. The path is mostly poorly or not rideable by bike.

Fribourg Cathedral from the Bern Bridge

From Schwarzenburg we follow cycle path no. 4 (signpost: cycle path no. 4). At the beginning of the village Heitenried, we turn left and continue via Lettiswil until we meet the marked Jakobsweg (for pedestrians) in Winterlingen. We follow it to St. Antoni.

St. Antoni – - Tafers - – Uebewil –- Fribourg

In St. Antoni, we cross the main road, continue straight and follow the Jakobsweg signposts to Wissenbach. Part of this section is a natural road but well passable. At Wissenbach by the Sebastians chapel on the cantonal road, we leave the marked Jakobsweg (which runs along the Taverna brook, is very narrow and only marked for pedestrians).

Hauterive Abbey

We turn left and again follow the cycle path (signpost cycle path no. 4) to Tafers.

Shortly after the entrance to Tafers, we turn half-left onto the marked Jakobsweg and reach the church square with the famous Jakobs chapel with the frescoes of the gallows legend. After leaving the church square, we follow, turning right, again the Jakobsweg signposts and come via Menziswil to Uebewil. (The section partly runs over field paths but is well passable in dry weather).

Arrival before Romont

From Uebewil, we have a wonderful view of the historic city of Fribourg. We continue straight on Jakobsweg (Jakobsweg signposts) and reach Route de Villars-les-Joncs, which is marked with the sign: One-way except bicycles.

At the end, we turn left into Route de Berne. At the following roundabout, we leave the Jakobsweg and continue right on Route de Berne until we reach the next roundabout. From there, we reach right over Pont de Zaehringen to the Cathedral. After the Cathedral, we go half-left at the roundabout to Place de Nova-Friburgo. From this square, we follow the sign (stylized shell on blue background) into Lausannegasse. Since this alley is in the pedestrian zone, we have to push the bike to Square des Places.

Detour route Tafers - Fribourg

From Tafers, we follow the cycle path no. 4 signposts until we reach Pont de Zaehringen in Fribourg.

Stage 13

Route: Fribourg – Villars sur Glâne – Ste Apolline - Grangeneuve – Ecuvillens – Posat – Autigny – Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens – Romont

Fribourg – - Ecuvillens

We leave Fribourg at the station to the right (signpost: Jakobsweg) through the large underpass and continue straight at the traffic lights into Avenue du Midi. At the 2nd street, we turn right (following Jakobsweg signposts) into Route de la Vignettaz, shortly afterwards leaving the marked Jakobsweg and continuing straight on Route du Fort Saint-Jacques. At the end, we turn left into Route de Villars. At the next roundabout, we stay left and pass the Agip garage on the left. Before the shopping center, there is a double roundabout. In the first roundabout, we turn left and then immediately right (sign: no entry except bicycles) into the forest. In the forest at the Jakobsweg junction, we stay left. We continue straight ahead always towards Ste-Apolline, into Chemins des Rochettes, and at the end turn left into Route de Soleil.

Then we ride to the road junction and follow half-right the road sign Romont towards the railway underpass. At the following roundabout, we go straight on Route de Sainte-Apolline, where we meet the marked Jakobsweg again.

At the end of the route, we turn twice right to the old stone bridge with the chapel. From there, it continues on a field path.

ATTENTION: NEW ROUTE GUIDANCE:

Upon reaching the country road, we ascend left (Route du Moulin-Neuf) to main road no. 12 and continue right until the junction (1 km) Route de Hauterive, where we turn left to Grangeneuve.

In Grangeneuve, we turn right and follow cycle path (signpost cycle path no. 4) to Posieux, where we turn right and continue to Ecuvillens.

Ecuvillens -– Autigny

In Ecuvillens, we leave the marked Jakobsweg as the marked route mostly leads over forest and meadow trails. We stay on cycle path no. 4. Exiting Magnedens, we turn right and continue on the country road following road signs over Posat, Grenilles and Estavayer to Autigny.

Autigny  - Romont

From here, we meet the marked Jakobsweg again, which leads left past the church towards Vers le Moulin and Chavannes-sous-Orsonnens. Outside Chavannes, we turn left onto the concreted field path and always follow Jakobsweg signposts to Romont. A section is also marked as cycle path (signpost cycle path no. 62). At the foot of the Romont hill, we turn left into Route de Chavannes and shortly after at the inn, we turn right (stylized shell on blue background) onto the path leading up the hill to the church.
