Schaffhausen, Munot and goods shed

Schaffhausen, Munot and goods shed

Today's stage will lead us over a distance of 12 km with a walking time of around 3 hours and 15 minutes from Schaffhausen to Rheinau. We have an easy day's hike ahead. We start the walk at Schaffhausen station and walk through the old town towards the Rhine. We follow the signposted paths and cross the Rhine. Today's path takes us over asphalt and natural trails. We pilgrimage along the river in a westerly direction and after about 3.0 km reach Flurlingen. Again, we cross the Rhine and arrive in Neuhausen. We follow the Rhine trail and soon see the impressive Rhine Falls on the left. We continue hiking along the Rhine towards Nohl - Altenburg. Here, for a short moment, we turn away from the Rhine and climb up towards Altenburg. On a hill, we reach an old Celtic fortification. The path leads us along this fortification around Altenburg and back to the Rhine shore. At the customs house Rheinbrücke, we cross the river and reach Rheinau. We are now about 1.0 km away from the former Rheinau monastery.

Today we pass the following sights: Rhine Falls, Rheinau Monastery

It is possible to choose the Thurgau Monastery Route from Schaffhausen to Tobel. For this, we follow the Rhine shore eastward.

Anmerkungen

The section Schaffhausen - Rheinau is part of the Schaffhausen-Zurich route, which will take us from Blumberg to Rapperswil-Jona. We are on the Swiss pilgrimage routes.

Tipp des Autors

If you want to experience the Rhine Falls up close, get into one of the boats and sail to the rock in the middle of the Rhine and then to the opposite side to Laufen Castle. About 1 km downstream of the Rhine Falls, you can return to the north/west side of the Rhine via the pedestrian bridge.
