Konstanz
Towards the southwest along the B 33 from Markdorf, past the Gehau hiking car park, Riedern district, through fields and forests over the model airfield Ittendorf and Gessler organic farm to the hamlet of Braitenbach with the historically significant Trinity Chapel, which contains historic red chalk scribbles by pilgrims. Then to Meersburg with the Church of the Visitation of Mary, castle and new palace. To the West ferry dock and by car ferry across Lake Constance to Staad. Through Allmannsdorf and Lorettowald to the lakeside promenade of the Constance Bay, over the Old Rhine Bridge to the Constance Minster of Our Lady. Here ends the Upper Swabian Pilgrimage Way and continues as the Swiss Pilgrimage Way "Swabian Way", starting from the Minster through the Palatinate garden and Wessenbergstraße southwards towards Rapperswil and Einsiedeln. Still in Constance, the historic Council building on the Lake Constance shore is worth a detour. With the Council of Constance 1414-18, the largest congress of the Middle Ages with 70,000 participants and the only papal election north of the Alps took place, aimed at restoring unity to the church from a triple papacy, clarifying questions of faith, and initiating reforms.
