Pilgrimage - you always find a bridge
We leave Wetzlar and reach the town of Braunfels via the smaller places Nauborn, Laufdorf, and Oberndorf, partly through wooded areas. The castle there dates back to the 13th century. The rooms are partially accessible as a museum via guided tours, although the castle is still in the family ownership of the Counts of Oppersdorff-Solm-Braunfels.
The Weilburg Tiergarten has a long history and was once used for fallow deer keeping to supply the court. Weilburg itself has a charming old town. Furthermore, the 2 km long ship tunnel built in 1844 is a testament to the fact that the Lahn was used as a freight waterway until 1969.
The town of Villmar is of royal origin, has a noteworthy town hall, and has been mining marble since the 16th century, marble that has made its way to the Empire State Building in New York.
Runkel Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Germany. Via Limburg an der Lahn with its impressive half-timbered houses in the old town, we finally reach Diez and thus Rhineland-Palatinate, and our route ends at the marketplace there.
"The Way of St. James from Marburg to Vézelay" leads from the Hessian university town of Marburg to Vézelay in France, the beginning of one of the 4 main routes of the French Way of St. James network.
The distances, walking times, and elevation differences are indicated for the respective routes. The division of the stages must therefore be done individually.
