Pilgrimage - also for seniors
Since we are already talking about the highest point of today's stage, we should also mention the Treysa-Ziegenhain flood retention basin, which is located near our next stage location. In dry weather, this depression appears as a "green basin," but when the tributaries Schwalm and Grenzebach carry a lot of water due to long or intensive rainy periods, the outlet structure is closed in order to then gradually release the retained water when the precipitation subsides, a measure that protects nearby villages and also those along the Fulda from flooding.
Our stage destination Ziegenhain, a former residence and district town, is now a district of Schwalmstadt in the northern Hessian Schwalm-Eder district. In the center of the town is Paradeplatz. To the northeast of the square is the former castle, which now houses the Schwalmstadt correctional facility; west of it stands the castle church, and to the south of the square is the tourism service Rotkäppchenland e.V.
Three Elisabeth paths lead as ecumenical pilgrimage routes to the burial church of Saint Elisabeth in Marburg. We use one of these 3 pilgrimage routes to get from Eisenach to Marburg as a stage towards Santiago.
The stages in this documentation are suggestions that each pilgrim can adapt to their wishes. However, the technical data always assumes that these stages would be completed in one day each.
