Most of us have seen picturesque fotos of Asian workers in their rice plantations, standing in the water with naked feet, and protecting themselves against the sun with straw hats. Rice plantations however do not exist in Asia only. Today's hike takes us through an area called «Lommelina», which represents the largest rice cultivation area in Italy. The River «Po» and his inflows supply the needed water, and the Italian sun supplies the needed heat.

The largest village on our way today is San Germano Vercellese. The local church there named «Parocchiale di San Germano» dates back to the 18th century.

Our destination Vercelli is another city with celtic origin, it was conquered by Romans in 43 b.Chr. Today, Vercelli is the capital of Italian rice cultivation as well as the largest Ruropean trader of rice. The Piazza Cavour is the heart of Vercelli. This plaza is dominated by the Tower named «del´Angelo». The Cathedral «di Sant´Andrea» is worth seeing as well, especially because of its well maintained cloister.
