Couvent de Malet - Saint-Côme-d'Olt
Today we leave the last outcrops of the Massif Central behind us and come down into the valley of the still young stream "Le Lot", which we will encounter repeatedly until Cahors, later flowing into the Garonne near Aiguillon, which in turn flows into the Bay of Biscay near Bordeaux. That sounds like a series of flat stages, but we do not always just follow the bank of the Lot.
As the first larger place on the Lot, we reach today's stage stop Saint-Côme-d'Olt, dominated by the ruin of Calmont d'Olt castle in the south. The town has an interesting old town centre. Quite special is the church Saint-Côme-et-Saint-Damien with a twisted bell tower.
The Via Podiensis starts in Le Puy-En-Velay and leads us to St. Jean Pied de Port. It corresponds to the long-distance trail 65 and is marked with the shell and red and white bars.
This stage stop has a gîte d'étape and a whole range of "chambres d'hôte", that is guest rooms.
