Jongieux - goodbye
In Jongieux we start almost at the highest point of the first of two heights that we will overcome today in a physically demanding stage. At Jongieux-Le-Haut we can admire the “Dent du Chat” to the south. Next we pass the St. Romain chapel before descending steeply in zigzags to the Rhône on a footpath. Now follows this mentioned section directly on the bank of the Rhône up to Yenne, a place where we can replenish our supplies again. In Yenne, the Church of Notre Dame de l'Assomption (12th century) is particularly worth a visit. From here the Rhône has cut a narrow gorge with steep slopes into the mountains. Once again, we do not stay in the valley floor, but go up to the heights, so pure nature now mostly awaits us until the stage destination. In a continuous ascent we climb through wooded mountain slopes up to 849 m above sea level, partly again with a view of the Rhône, before the descent to Saint-Genix begins, a place on the shore of the Guiers just before its confluence with the Rhône.
Just before Saint-Genix, the visit of the pretty “Chapelle de Pignieux” is recommended. Three pilgrim shells remind us there that we are on the pilgrimage route.
The Via Gebennensis connects the Swiss Jacob's ways from Geneva with the Via Podiensis, which starts in Le Puy-en-Velay and from there leads westward to the Pyrenees.
Refuel again in Yenne, after that it becomes lonely.
Guten Tag
