Aubrac Rinder vor Nasbinals
This stage in the Monts d'Aubrac in the Dept. Lozère is probably one of the most impressive in this section of the Via Podiensis. In winter, this high plateau is a popular cross-country skiing area, and in summer it is a paradise for hikers. Aumont-Aubrac and the Aubrac are famous for the cattle breed of the same name; today we will surely see a few specimens of this species in the pastures. The Monts d'Aubrac are sparsely populated, which means dining and shopping options are very limited. Therefore, it makes sense to start with enough provisions. Nasbinals is a typical village in the Aubrac, you can tell from the houses that they were built for a region with a harsh climate. The Norman church Sainte Marie is the attraction in the village. The large shell symbol at the church entrance makes pilgrim hearts beat faster. The Gîte d'Etappe de Nasbinals near the church has 40 beds – this should be sufficient even in the high season.
Anmerkungen
The Via Podiensis begins in Le Puy-En-Velay and leads us to St. Jean Pied de Port. It corresponds to the long-distance hiking trail 65 and is marked with the shell and with red-white stripes.
