We are leaving Pannonhalma

During the Napoleonic wars, the French artillery was directed from here during the Battle of Kisber. Our path leads us past the memorial stone and wooden cross that remind us of the Rákóczi War of Independence. We proceed on the main road, and upon leaving it, we pass by the Marcal reservoir and a meadow where we encounter a special birdlife. Afterwards, we walk on the embankment of the Rába river and reach Gyor, a city with 140,000 inhabitants. On the pedestrian street of the city, we arrive at Széchenyi Square, the baroque main square of the city. At the square, we find the St. Ignatius church. Gyor offers many sights, accommodation options, and restaurants. A truly atmospheric provincial town invites guests to stay longer.

The Way of St. James in Hungary from Budapest to Wolfsthal runs continuously along the western or southern side of the Danube. Wolfsthal is located slightly southwest of Bratislava, making the continuation of the route westward from Wolfsthal also a path for pilgrims coming from Slovakia.

From Pannonhalma we follow the Way of St. James symbols; in Écs, the red crosses of tourist symbols appear and lead us into the Sokoró mountains. Upon reaching the ridge, we see a four-way junction and follow the red striped tourist symbols. 500 m before the lookout tower, we have the option to follow the green striped tourist symbols down to the village of Nyúl. 200 m after the tower, we have another option to follow the blue squares to Gyorújbarát. However, if we follow the original pilgrimage path symbols over the mountains via Gyorújbarát, and only follow the Way of St. James markings, we arrive in Gyor. In the pedestrian zone in Gyor, we find no more symbols up to the main square.
