The origin of the abbey is linked to a legend. It is told that around the early decades of the year 1000 the young deacon Gemolo was beheaded by a group of bandits on his pilgrimage to Rome. After he was killed, the boy allegedly picked up his head and rode to the place where today the Benedictine abbey stands.
Our route recording leads us to this former abbey, which is located on the western edge of the town of Valganna.
The «Via Francisca» is also called the «Road of the Emperors». It leads from Konstanz via the Lukmanier Pass to Pavia, where it connects to the local pilgrim trail network.
The stages in this documentation are proposals that each pilgrim can adapt to their wishes. However, the technical data always assume that these stages are completed each in one day.
