Camaiore

Today, we hike trough the province of Lucca towards its capital, named Lucca as well.Our trail leads us direction south-east, which means we move away from the Mediterranean Sea, which we will not see any more during our pilgrimage to Rome. Enjoying the sea was a brief pleasure.

Camaiore on our route is a relatively silent, little town. Life is more animated in Lido de Camaiore, 10km away from here on the beach. but still being part of Camaiore. This is specially true during the summer vacation period.

Piazzano

Todays destination Lucca was founded 180 b.C. as a roman colony. Its market place is of oval shape due to the fact that the buildings around the place were built on the foundations of the former roman amphitheatre . This place with the yellow buildings around carries the name «Piazza dell'Anfiteatro». The impressive church San Michele in Foro carries a comparable reference in its name, it was built on the foundations of the former Forum Romanum.
