Our destination Altopascio has a many year's tradition with pilgrims. Already in 952, a reputated hospice was documented. Furthermore , the «Tau order of knights» had their headquarter here. They were supporting pilgrims on their way to Rome or to Santiago all over Europe . A witness of those days is the bell «La Samarita» in a belltower of the 13th. century, which was ringing at the time to support pilgrims lost in the surrounding marshes to find their way safely to Altopascio.
