Another day in the province of Parma, however, after the warming-up the day before, we will be really exposed to the Apennines today. This mountain chain, extends over 1500 km and begins in the northwestern part of Italy, with the Monferrato hills close to the city of Torino. From there, it extends East until the Adria, then South until Sicily. The highest peak is the «Gran Sasso d´Italia» in the Abruzzi Mountains, elevating up to 2912 m.o.s

This day will not come accros many cultural highlights, however we will be presented quite some beautiful mountain sceneries and will test our fitness. It´s good to to know, that at our destination Cassio, facilities like the «Casa della Via Francigena » or the «Da Veronica» will expect us to spend the night there.

The «Via Francigena» is one of the 3 main christian pilgrimage trails of the Middle Ages, the main axis leading from Canterbury to Rome. This documentation currently covers the most frequented section from Lausanne to Rome.
